The two-piece altar table, also known as the upper and lower altar table set, is one of Taiwan’s most iconic traditional altar styles. Its design assigns a distinct role to each level: the upper table holds deity statues, ancestral tablets, and incense burners, expressing reverence through its elevated position, while the lower table is reserved for offerings. This difference in height creates a dignified arrangement and keeps abundant offerings from obscuring the sacred figures, preserving a clear and orderly worship space.
With its generous proportions and traditional layout, this altar set requires ample width and depth, making it especially suited to spacious homes, townhouses, villas, or dedicated worship rooms. During everyday use, the lower table tucks beneath the upper table to keep the space tidy and allow easy movement. For festivals and major ceremonies, it can be pulled out fully to accommodate a generous spread of offerings. Rooted in traditional design, the set establishes a serene, dignified spiritual center with a strong sense of ritual within the home.
